The children got a place at the Swedish school
Jenny says: “After a lot of thinking and sleepless nights, we decided to fulfill our dream in the spring of 2020, to move down to the wonderful Costa del Sol!
We had found a place at the Swedish school Costa del Sol for our children Todd and Stella, who at that time would start third grade and preschool respectively. The ball was set in motion and the housing hunt was in full swing with Homenetspain's owner Katja Rise Carlqvist. 380 miles from us in Gävle, Katja was looking for our dream home, due to the ongoing Pandemic we had no opportunity to travel down.
Bought & renovated a house instead of an apartment
The idea was first to buy an apartment, but when Katja found the perfect house for us, we struck and bought our Spanish house, without having been on site, with only a video viewing to start from.
“You are crazy!” - We have heard both several times, but the truth is that we have not regretted a single second since the decision was made in May 2020. We knew nothing about life on the Costa del Sol, we couldn't find anywhere and didn't know a single person. But we were so happy to finally be here and quickly both we and the children got to know new great friends.
We started renovating our house, and life in Spain began to take shape. Obviously, it was a special time, with mandatory face masks, bans on crossing municipal borders and curfews in the evenings. But it was still amazing that we had taken the plunge.
Five years later, the family still lives here
Now, in our fifth year down here, we are still in love with the Costa del Sol. Sweden is still there, we go there both Christmas and summer, and our beloved family and friends back home come down here as often as they can. As for our home, we have renovated a lot both indoors and on the plot, but still have projects left. The next step is to build an upstairs to accommodate our guests, and to get a better view of the sea. So you could say that the journey has just begun...”
