The nature in Andalusia is beautiful all year round and offers high majestic mountains to deep seas and everything in between. It's a fantastic destination for the outdoors and outdoor activities, and there are plenty of great hiking trails to choose from. During the summer months in Spain, it is of course very hot and sunny, but if you feel like getting out in the open, we can really recommend river walking, which is both refreshing from the cold river water and at the same time an exciting activity.
North of the lovely coastal town of San Pedro de Alcántara you will find the pleasant little mountain village of Benahavís and the river Río Guadalmina, which is a hidden little paradise for those who want to try a “jungle adventure”. It takes about 2 hours to get through the hiking trail and depending on the time of year you go there, there is a different amount of water, so you must be prepared to swim some shorter distances. It also includes in some places a little easier climbing to get over rocks that are along the river. What you need is swimwear, a water bottle and a pair of water-resistant shoes on your feet. This is a perfect experience for the whole family and interesting to see the mountain formations up close. For those who want, it is also possible to jump from cliffs along the passage.
It is suggested that you park just before and walk uphill along the road to get to the start of the route. Then you walk all the way down and thus avoid walking all the way uphill! For those who want a little extra challenge, you can of course also start from the bottom. It is a wonderful experience that you should not miss!
