Sweden and Portugal have signed a protocol amending the 2002 tax treaty between the countries. Through the change, it will no longer be possible to move to Portugal to take out pension from former private employment tax-free. The Swedish Government writes in a press release.

The fact that Swedes have been able to move to Portugal and escape the tax-free occupational pension has been rejected by the Swedish S-government.

- It is not about money primarily, but about justice, says Finance Minister Magdalena Andersson.

- Very high private pensions and parachutes from Sweden should not be fully tax-free in Portugal, while ordinary people who have worn an entire professional life are doing right. This has been an unfair gap in the regulatory framework that we are now closing down,
